The Fourth Speaker is the new blog from Sydney Speaking School.
In debating, the title of ‘fourth speaker’ is a bit of a misnomer – they do not actually present over the course of the debate. Rather, they hold more of a supporting role, assisting their teammates develop their case before the debate, and helping the other speakers devise effective rebuttal whilst the opposition presents their arguments. For this reasons, most competitions have rebranded the role as the ‘team adviser’.
This blog seeks to serve the same purpose. Rather than taking the limelight, its often important to have a team player in the background looking to help out where necessary. In this blog you will find a range of helpful suggestions, useful tips and various guides to success to keep in mind when pursuing either (or both!) public speaking and debating.
We hope to be that teammate helping every child succeed as a speaker.
